Recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies
What You'll Need:
What You'll Do:
- Cookie Sheet
- Parchment Paper
- Two Bowls (one medium, one small)
- Softened Butter
- White Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- 1 Egg (we'll only be using the yolk)
- Egg Yolk Separator
- Vanilla
- Baking Soda
- Flour
- Chocolate Chips
- Cookie Scoop
What You'll Do:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Make sure that all group members wash their hands. Use dish detergent as soap.
- Line the cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix the following: 1/4 cup softened butter, 2 tbs white sugar, 2 tbs brown sugar, and 1/4 tsp vanilla. Stir with a mixing paddle until creamy. This may take a while, but you will eventually get there.
- Place the egg yolk separator over the small bowl and then crack an egg into the separator. Put the shell in the compost bin. Then add just the yolk of the egg to your mixture. You can pour the egg white down the sink.
- Stir with the mixing paddle until smooth.
- Mix in the following: 1/4 tsp baking soda and 1/2 cup flour. Dough will form. Keep stirring with the mixing paddle and keep scraping the sides of the bowl so that everything is included in the mix.
- Stir in 1/4 cup chocolate chips.
- Use a cookie scoop to form 6 balls of dough. Place them evenly spaced on the cookie sheet. Push each one down a bit with the back of a spoon.
- Bake for 14 minutes (place it on the top rack). Use oven mitts for this. [While waiting for it to bake, clean up whatever you can.]
- Using oven mitts, remove from oven and place on stovetop. Turn off oven. Let sit for 3-5 minutes before eating. [Again, you can clean up as you wait.]
- If the bell rings, it doesn't matter; do NOT leave the Tech Room until you're finished cleaning up.
