If you don't already have a Scratch account (or if you have one but can't remember the username and password), you will need to create a new one. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Open a new tab in Google Chrome by selecting 'New Tab' from the 'File' menu. You may also push Command-T to open a new tab.
  2. In this new tab, go to scratch.mit.edu.
  3. Click on 'Join Scratch' to create your new Scratch account.
  4. For your username, type your school username (the same one that you use to log into your computer).
  5. For your password, type your school password.
  6. For your email address, type your school username, followed by @student.nbed.nb.ca. For example, if your username was JohSmi00123, you would type johsmi00123@student.nbed.nb.ca for your email address (all lower case letters will be fine).

As always, if you need help with any of this, please ask. :)

For this assignment, you need to create ONE game: Portal or Frogger.

However, after you watch the videos on this page, if you are not interested in making either of these games, please let me know. I may decide to let you come up with your own idea, as long as it's a good one and is as challenging to make (but not TOO challenging).

If you haven't seen Portal or Frogger before, check out the videos on the right to get a quick idea of what they are like. Obviously, the versions that we make in Scratch will not be nearly as advanced as the real games (especially in the case of Portal). However, they will still be pretty cool. Plus, making them will teach you how to use some of the more complicated things in Scratch (like variables).

The key concept of Portal is that you can shoot both blue and orange portals into the walls and then teleport from one to the other.

The key concept of Frogger is that you are a frog and you are trying to get from one side of a busy street to the other without getting squished by vehicles.

Ready to get started? Okay, let's go.
