Sketchup 2

(NOTE: You are only allowed to complete this unit if you have already completed 'Sketchup 1
'.)

Following the guidelines below, create your own SketchUp model of a house.

  1. Be sure to use realistic measurements. For example, a good size for your house might be 40' by 30'. (If you make your house unrealistically big, then all of your furniture will end up looking too small.)
  2. The house can only have one floor.
  3. The house must have a roof.
  4. Your floor and your roof must be on different layers.
  5. You must use paint/surface textures in your model. In other words, the walls must be painted, there must be proper flooring installed throughout the house, etc.
  6. The house must have at least one bathroom (but no more than two).
  7. The house must have at least two bedrooms (but no more than three).
  8. The house must have one kitchen/dining room area (and no more than one).
  9. The house must have at least one living room/fun area (however, you may include more if you wish).
  10. Everything else is up to you!

There are a couple of ways to go about doing this assignment.

The video on the right will show you how the professionals do it. If you'd like to try it that way, you can download either of the two blueprints below. Then, you can pretend that you are a Sketchup designer and that you've been hired to take the blueprint and turn it into a 3D model in Sketchup.

Of course, the guy in the video is working with a different blueprint, but watching him work will give you an excellent idea of what you need to do. Because he's so good at using Sketchup, he works really quickly; however, you can pause and rewatch the key parts as many times as you need to.

Another option is to work without a blueprint.
This video will show you how to quickly sketch out your own floorplan in Sketchup:

When you have finished your assignment, be sure to check it over carefully and make sure that you have followed all of the instructions.

Then, you should place the .skp file in the Dropbox and let Mr. Locke know which unit you wish to begin next.
